Snow patrol has always been known as a light hearted and sensitive sounding band. But an added dance/dub step injection has revitalized the sound of this once soft rhythmic guitar set band. Fallen Empires is a fresh and present sounding Snow patrol and fits into the dub step and dance phenomenon that sweeping through the UK. The direction taken to do this was well thought out as it is done with class and taste. The track “Call out in the Dark” descends back into the most common sound of the band, but by far the best song on the album. Fallen empires could be argued to pay homage to the lead singer Gary Lightbodys inspirational thoughts and wishes, with one song describing a unified World cup glory for Irish people north and south of the border.
